Who is Jennifer Prufer? This is my story.

Before I share my story with you, I want to start by asking you two questions:

One: Are you living a fulfilled life? And two: are you living up to your potential?

We’ll get back to this topic in just a second..

So here’s my big coming out story. No, I’m not gay. It’s just that I can count on the fingers of my hand how many people know my story. If by any chance, you are a teacher, I strongly encourage you to try to get to know your students on a personal level. I know it would’ve made a huge difference in my life.

I grew up in a very unusual and chaotic family. No one really took care of me, I bounced around living with different people, and I went to seven different schools between elementary school and high school between two countries with completely different education systems even within the same country. My dominant language switched between English and Korean three times, and each switch was radical, meaning I didn’t speak both languages well the whole time. Do you know how it feels to receive corporal punishment in front of your classmates and not even know the reason for it because you don’t speak the language?

My family was low-middle class, and I was on my own financially starting at age eighteen. (Miraculously, I was a good student throughout all of those years, and went to a good college with a scholarship.)
Needless to say, life was extremely difficult. During my early and teenage years, I just couldn’t wait to become an adult so that I could make my own decisions, make money, and enjoy freedom.

As you can see, I’m an adult now, and you may be wondering: so, how did that turn out for you?

Very well, actually.

After living in twelve cities on three continents, I finally found the place I could see myself settling down in, which is San Diego, California.

After dating some great guys, I finally found the perfect guy for me. (No, we’re not married yet, please, my mom asks me enough about that already).

I picked up a new language, Spanish- hola, ¿cómo estás?

After some great and not-so-great jobs in different sectors, I finally know what I should be focused on and what kind of work makes me happy and fulfilled. During that career discovery journey, I gained new skills so quickly that I got an over fifty percent increase in pay three times within seven years. The last job offer as a marketing director that I turned down- I just couldn’t get myself to sign it- was for over $200,000 a year. Now, I’m working my butt off to recoup that opportunity cost and more.

By the way, my sense of direction, stability, and clarity came to me within the past couple of years, meaning I struggled a lot with knowing what I wanted and who I aspired to become for many years.

I’m not trying to say that everything is perfect now, but it’s pretty good. Like everyone else, I have my struggles, but struggling feels very different once you have a sense of purpose.

With this website, I want to share the lessons I’ve learned and different skills I’ve acquired, mostly related to personal growth (included in the life category), and online business growth (business category). Although some content will be abstract or conceptual, my aim is to provide lots of actionable and practical advice and how-tos, because there’s a lot of useless fluff and superficial content out there as it is. Random personal blog posts are in the blog category.

So.. if my motto “be fulfilled, keep growing” resonates with you at all, I’d like for you to follow along by subscribing below.

Peace.

  1. Jennifer, thank you for sharing your story! Your story is inspirational. It is a reminder that a person can rise up from humble circumstances and become anything they want to be.

  2. Your story is definitely the inspirational one! I don’t often feel that I’m living to my full potential. However, I think it is more from the physical limitations than anything else.

    • Thank you, Emily. I don’t know your situation, but I’d think that as long as we have the ability to be conscious of ourselves, others, and our surroundings, we can live to our full potential.

  3. Your story is so inspiring and encouraging. Thanks for sharing and providing an example for all of us to share ours.
